Is it possible to add a solid fuel boiler to backup a standard combinational boiler? Maybe just for the radiators if not the hot water. I have the space and flue where an old conventional boiler was. Also, I can get a good supply of free wood during the course of my work. Any advice appreciated.

yes it can be done, you wouuld have to design the control system using `normally open` 2 port zone valves.
