I have a dormer bungalow which the sides of the dormer have been covered with a single ply membrane which has never failed but I now want to put some grey UPVC cladding over as i think it will make it look better. My question is can I just clad over the single ply membrane with battens or will i have to rip it all off.

I recently had UVPC cladding replaced on my dormers. The contractor advised taking off the old cladding and the original wooden cladding planks under that. the old PVC was on top of the wood for about 15 years with no problems. I guess they may be a problem if there was not a big enough air gap between the two layers
