Grateful for some advice on which adhesive to use for real slate floor tiles. Intend to lay onto a level concrete floor. Tiles obviously vary in thickness. What adhesive options are open to me and what are the pros and cons of each. Can I use a simple sand and concrete mix - presumably this is the cheapest? Also any advice on the type of grout to use and some recommendations for sealant would help. I am tiling a large area comprising dining room, hall, kitchen and utility room.

I did a job 40sq mts earlier this year with Fired Earths parchment slate 400x600 10-25mm thick. http://photobucket.com/albums/v156/jasonballamy/work/?action=view&current=PICT0002.jpg

I used Bal Motobond which is suitable for large format tiles. The advantage of using this over Sand/cement is that it is rapid setting, has a better bond strength and does not need to be as thick as sand/cement.

I used Bal widejoint grout (12mm joints) in "sandstone" which suited the slate colour.

Sealed with 2cts Fired Earths stone seal before grouting, then 2cts stone finish after sealing.

Have a look at their site as they have a good guide to laying natural stone flooring. http://www.agaweb02.agalinks.com/agal/VIEWMEDIA?MEDIA_ID=6806&type=app
