Any tips (Tricks of the trade) for connecting this thick 10ml cable into the terminals on the 2pole switch would be gratefully received, everytime I get to screw the switch to the box the bl**dy wires come out, the cable is too stiff ( normally the problem is the other way round!! te he  )

Richard, you need to tighten it up more as they only come out on a loose connection.

Ensure enough copper is stripped, then push it in as far as it will go. Hold it in place, then srew the terminal screws down as tight as you can get them without shearing off the heads.

This may sound silly but what type of terminal are you connecting into? Is it a screw type or clamp type if a clamp type are you putting the cable the right side of the clamp? it can be confusing to the uninitiated as to where you put the cable before tightening.
