Hi.

I recently removed a built-in wardrobe and have been left with what can be seen in the attached pictures (ignore the network gear, it will all be relocated). I'm an ok DIY'er but not quite sure how best to tackle the tidy-up job. The plan is to build a tall, vertical bookcase/shelving unit which will sit against the wall but I hadn't planned to build this to reach the ceiling.

I was thinking that I could simply attach the left panel of the bookcase to the stud work and then fill any gaps between the cut plasterboard edge and bookcase side panel (likely to be painted or veneered MDF).

Thoughts?

Build a plinth using shims to ensure there is a perfectly level base, add prebuilt pre measured shelves to that. You can scribe fillets to the gaps at the side. Allow for tidying up the exposed pb to achieve a flush finish. No rear panel for the shelves but tidy up and paint first. Fix shelf sides/back to wall.
