hi guys,

just read energy saving article in newpaper and then check my boiler.
the boiler is potterton suprima 60 , immersion heater with economy 7,expansion tank in the loft, gas running cost of 450£ a year, 3 bed room detached house.

the question is should i need to change to combination system for cost efficient . if then how much i have to spend.

cheers,

confuscio

dont believe all that you read in the papers. (or forums)

just because you read an article in some paper you want to rip out a working central heating system and replace it with a combi?

dont!

Would you buy a car that does more mpg than your old car but have to pay a lot more for the new car to do it. It would take a long time to get your saving back, hang on a minute what has this got to do with plumbing

Dear orgconfuscio,
What ever system or boiler you have is old and inefficient. If it is just out of guarantee then it is on it's last legs. It is probably in a dangerous condition (though it was one of the safest on the market with the longest predicted life), and should be changed without delay.

Modern boilers are so efficient you can pump fuel back into your tank or into the gas main. They give out a new sort of heat that cannot escape from buildings, and installing one of these will probably double the resale value of your home.

We look forward to receiving your order and assure you of best attention.

Yours sincerely

thanks for deception advice.i have a few questions to justify to put a new boiler

1. what is the average life span for a boiler ? as mine manufacture in 1997
2. combi vs condensing vs conventional boiler
3. cost efficient in long term

........ have I started a trend.....

No, I have a few bitc hy ones in earlier posts, but then (late 2003) the questions were new and written with a bit of thought by people who seemed to want help solving a problem. Now they are often written by dipsticks who are trying to do things on the cheap. If they are digging a hole, perhaps I should help them in. "Is this a good price?" "Can you tell me how to do this job that is well beyond me so I can stop someone else earning a living?" "Would this totally useless gadget fix my problem?" and what's worse, all the boiler problems are gas!! Why don't people see there's hardly any problems with oil boilers? But what do they do? they buy GAS!! doh!!

I think most peoples problems are caused by heating systems. If they have them, they turn them on, then wonder why it costs money. We don't have a heating system (who'd want one, they're always going wrong), and apart from a bit of leakage from a storage heater, we are sitting here tonight, temperature at around 70 F, no jumper on, and quite comfortable, AND it's a Victorian house with original wooden leaky windows.

oilman you are nominated as this weeks guest ranter as pedantic is off line
now take this seriously we dont want any half hearted rants
