Advice needed for a leaking roof

hi all,
my flat roof is leaking because of the severe weather. my future plans are to extend the kitchen(in 2-3years time) and am looking for a temporary solution. the roofer has suggested to put a polythene membrance over the felt and he thinks it will last for a couple of years. any suggestions would be really appreciated.
