Hi all,
I'm new to this, and not much of an expert when it comes to decorating. About two years ago we had our staircase painted, including the bannister and rails.
Around the top of the stairs we've seen the paint come off (presumably due to oily hands) but it's generally fine everywhere else. Ideally I want to just redo these bits, in keeping with what's already there (picture attached).
From memory I think it's stained with a dark oak, but it has a glossy finish that I assume is some sort of varnish. Just wondering how I go about it? Guessing a light sand down, stain, then apply the varnish? What sort of varnish (if any) would I need?
Thanks in advance!
