Hi all, new here.

My Brother is looking for a new boiler system, at the moment he has a back boiler with a tank in the loft also feeding 8 rads.

He would like a system that can do the following if possible:

Run 10 rads.
Run 3 showers, not electric ones.
Be able to run a nice quick bath if thats possible.

So people what does he need, please.

Thanks in advance

Mark

As long as you have adequate pressure on your incoming main then I would go for a good system boiler, maybe Worcester or Vaillant in conjunction with an unvented hot water cylinder.

Hiya, thanks for the reply, what do I need to be able to test the pressure chap, also what sort of pressure should I be getting ?

Thanks
Mark

In a perfect world you will need at least 3.5Bar pressure and at least 20 l/min flow rate to get the best out of an unvented cylinder. You will also need a 22mm cold feed to the cylinder.

What is the likelihood of all three shower being on at the same time? Probably never.

Test with a bucket the cold mains at the kitchen tap and time in litres per minute. What is the pressure?

If cold mains good enough fit a Glow Worm 38CXI. It will do two showers simultaneously and fill bath fast enough. That is a cheap cost effective route. The Glow Worm is quality boiler.

The Glow Worm is quality boiler.

As you have never fitted one yourself, I wonder how you come to that conclusion?

I have repaired a few and so I have a different opinion! I dont like plastic boiler bits either!

Because I have fitted one. With outside senor too. This boiler is very quiet indeed and can't be heard on CH.

Not the Ultracom then. As you rate BIASI as quality I don't rate your opinions on boilers.

I would be cautious in the statement that a 38CXi will do 2 showers together as it can only produce around 15 l/min in perfect circumstances.

As the average shower is 8 l/min "mixed". It can do it. I have seen it do it too. The shower mixers had equalisation valves on them and when a cold tap was turned on elsewhere the effect was minimal, just a glitch for a second. The dishwasher and w/machine were cold fill, so only the downstairs toilet and kitchen hot taps could affect the showers. All the taps were balanced out.

It also fills bath up pretty well OK too. No one complained.

Thanks for the replies people, sorry not been around much today, work and then football coaching tonight.

I will test the bucket and litres etc and then report back

Thanks

Hi all,

Tonight I got a bucket and tested the flow of water, it filled 10 litres in 30 seconds, to the top of the bucket 14.5 litres in 44 seconds, so that appears to be 20 litres a minute.

How does that sound to you all.

Thanks
Mark

Pretty good, but I still would not expect to run 3 showers at the same time.

Hi all, me again,
British Gas came out to see my Brother tonight, they said a Worcester Greenstar 440 would run 3 showers at the same time no problems.

However looking on the net it seems to suggest upto 2 bathrooms.

All my brother wants to know is what he needs to do to get to a stage where he can run 3 showers if he needs to.

Anyone know the answer ?

Thanks
Mark

Gremlin I understand what your saying chap, but how do I tell if the pressure is good enough, I have tested the flow rate 20litres per minute which Gas4you says is not enough, what else does he need, how can we tell the pressure etc etc.

Thanks
Mark
