I need to build and fit a gate in here. The side of the shed will have feather edge boards. A panel type arrangement (to match the thickness of the gate so it all looks flush) and the gate will also be constructed of featheredge boards.

The gap from the wall to the featherdge (sticking out the most is 85cm).

This side passage is a bit of a wind tunnel and the gate is always slamming shut (from when we had one before). I don’t want this to shift the structure of the shed. I also want to maximise the opening.

Should I fit the gate to the shed and close it to the wall or open it the other way?

I would appreciate your advice with this. Thanks in advance.

I'd always try to fix the main gate support post to the wall, and then adjust the gate to suit the shed.
John :)
Thanks John.
Is that for strength reasons? Would I be okay to anchor bolt a 4x2 timber to the wall and hang the gate off this? It would maximise the opening.

If I fit a 4x2 to the wall and hang my gate on here, it feels that it should close against the shed.
The gate is going to be 2 inch wide. Based on this, I think I need to build a 4 inch wide panel in front of the shed (will line with featheredge boards). The 2 inch gate will then close against this and I will have some space (2") to fit the gate stop behind where the gate shuts. I think for this reason the panel needs to be more than 2inch wide as else there will be no space to fit the gate stop anywhere.

I was planning to have the gate shut on to the edge of the shed in the way I have described.

I may be confusing myself but would appreciate some advice with this. Thanks again.
