Looking for some advice - I would like to remove the roof joists that prior to replacing a flat roof with a pitched roof used to support a felted flat roof.

The new roof is built on new trusses that sit above the old joists except over the outside wall where the new trusses are on top of the old joists.

Would it be okay to brace the old joists over the outside wall where they support the trusses using the old joist wood, I am thinking of putting in 2 bracing blocks to create a square or rectangle attached with brackets in-between each joist.

Once that is done I would remove all the joist sections hanging over the room itself?

would brick or breeze block be better for bracing?

The top picture shows the new truss sitting on the old joist on the outside wall.

The second picture shows the joists that I would like to remove.

Do you want the full length of joist? I ask because, on the face of it, it would seem to be simpler to cut the end off the joist leaving a small piece of joist supporting and removing the majority

Hi yes I want to remove the bulk of the joists so that I can raise the ceiling higher. I am concerned about the small left over parts of the joists that are supporting the trusses on the outerwall collapsing like a deck of cards, unless I put in braces. Thanks.
