Hello all,

I’ve picked up a 3 draw chest of draws (pictured) of dimensions (cm) H80 x W80 x D40.

I’m looking to ‘restore’, that is to say, strip off the paint, sand and revarnish them to bring out a natural wooden finish.

This is the first time I’ve done anything like this, so ive done a fair bit of research on the net and come up with a ‘draft plan’ but I’d welcome any input.

My plan is to use paint stripper to remove the thick maroon paint, then sand the wood down (is it worth/possible to use a power sander? ) before applying a couple of coats of varnish.

Thoughts?

Tungsten scraper
Remaining paint use peeltec
Hand sand the rest.

That's how I'd approach it. See what happens as old wood and maybe laminated Vs solid.
