Advisable width for 3 piece bifold door

Hi guys,

Wanting to put in a 3 piece bifold door into a new rear extension. I would imagine that 3 pieces into a small hole would perhaps look silly. What is a reasonable size for these. I have roughly 2.4 m to play with, but could go a bit bigger.

Also, with so much out there, can anyone advise of a decent manufacturer of aluminium bifold doors. Not too expensive please. What about Annglian/Everest?

I did a bit of searching with manufacturers and in the forum online in the last couple of days and it was the last post that led to this one. In my last post, a good point was made about possibly regretting instaling a 3 piece into 1.8 - 2m space. My searches were throwing up a few standard off the shelf units of 2.4m, which I could just about fit in. Just because the manufacturers stock a 2.4m, I thought I'd ask the question of those in the windows forum who will be experienced with these - as suggested by yourself in my previous post..

Hi, if you want the very dearest, other than commercial, call Anglian or Everest.
2.4 mts is about the max for 3 panes. 3 or 5 panes work best as with even numbers you have to push every other mullion outwards to get the doors to all slide. Aluminum is generally best but use a major trade fabricator and ensure you have experienced bifold installers to fit them. It is not a DIY job as the tolerances are as little as 3mm over the entire length.

different systems can do different sizes. Its normal for an aluminium system to do a maximum 1000mm per panel width and height 2200mm. Ideal for that size is 2700 wide with three panels in any system. Ensure all panels go one way so you can use as a normal door.
We do the handles and door holder for most of these systems. Whatever price bracket your on we can point you in a number of directions for these as we supply over 150 different fabricators. Some i would not go near for my own and others are very professional. hope that helps
