Can anyone tell me how to get the door seal back on the outer drum of an AEG Lavamat 72360, preferably without taking the whole front panel off the cabinet?

TIA

Why do you want to make it difficult??
Take the front panel off and it's easy to do.
Otherwise you have to work through the door.

Take the dispenser out, there's a screw there that holds the front panel on.

For anyone interested here is a step-by-step guide to refitting the door seal on an AEG Lavamat 72360:

1. Unplug from mains. Open cover over trap at bottom right and pull it off the hinge pins. Take out 3 screws. Slide bottom panel slightly to the right and remove it. Take out 2 screws holding bottom of main front panel.

2. Take out 2 screws at rear of top cover, slide cover rearwards and lift off.

3. Take out 2 screws at front holding top corners of control panel and pull it off forward. Carefully tease the blue wires out of the retaining clip at the back which will enable you to lay the control panel flat on the top of the machine.

4. Pull out soap dispenser drawer. Take out 2 screws and keep them separate as they are slightly different from the others. Remove front of soap dispenser.

5. Close the door. Position a block about 6 inches high at the front right of the machine ready to take the weight of the front panel and door.

6. NOW you can undo the two screws at the top of the front panel. Carefully lift the two lugs out of the slots near these screws, without straining the wiring that goes to the door lock. As you remove the panel, unclip the hose bracket from the slight indentation in the upper edge.

7. Note the orientation of the shroud over the door lock connections and wriggle it off upwards, then pull off the connector block.

8. Postion the door seal with the arrow at the top, opposite the arrow on the black front balance weight. Stretch it over the rim on the outer drum taking care not to pucker it anywhere. Bicycle tyre levers with smooth rounded ends are useful for this. Check carefully that the seal is properly seated all the way round, you will not be able to adjust it later.

9. Stretch the wire spring over the seal. It fits in the groove furthest from the front with the join at the bottom. It is easier to do it with two people.

10. Refit the front panel as the reverse of the above steps.

11. Stretch the front edge of the door seal over the edge of the door opening, taking care not to pucker it anywhere, with the flap centrally in the botom recess. Check carefully that the seal is properly seated all the way round.

12. Lightly lubricate the large plastic retaining ring with soapy water and refit it with the join at the bottom, pressing the ring inwards all the way round until the teeth will engage. (It is not clear if it matters which way round the ring goes. It seems to be OK with the "open" side of the fastening towards the front.)

13. Refit the remaining parts and carry out a rinse cycle to check for water tightness.

Good luck!
