I have an 2 1/2 year old AEG Santo S3675KA6 refrigerator which has recently developed a problem. Having wasted all that money before on the extended warranties I didn't again.....

For around the last 6 months, occasionally, when you open the door, the light comes on then there is a click and it goes off before coming on again. While I couldn't be certain, I had a suspicion that it was only happening when the compressor was running. This is only a minor problem that I can happily ignore unless it is related to the main problem.

More recently, the fridge has on two occasions totally given up. Even with the door closed, it has made the same click noise, the temperature display and lights go blank then there is another noise that sounds like a pop before as the displays come back on for two seconds before cycling again. On both occasions, the kitchen has been warm through cooking. We then filled a bowl with ice cubes to keep the contents cool and switched off the supply as the wall overnight. In the morning the fridge works again.

To me this click and pop sounds like a polyfuse tripping and resetting in response to the compressor starting, something that would be made worse by elevated temperatures but if that were the case, summer will kill it completely? Is the fridge or compressor protected in this way or is it a relay I can hear? What could cause this if it was the problem?

Are there any more knowledgeable/experienced suggestions as to what could be wrong and what should be done about it?

I have the same AEG Santo problem. Constantly resetting, especially when the door is opened and the light comes on. Mine is 5+ yrs old. And it did fail completely last year causing the cooling element to frost up inside.
I had to replace the temp. sensors. I am suspicious of these sensors again.

You are right, there is a relay on the PCB.

And yes if i turn it off for a few hours, it is OK again. But the temp. reported on the display as gone up 4deg.

Did you solve the problem?
