I balanced my system using an infra red thermometer to achieve 11 degrees drop across each radiator,

The first radiator makes a trickling noise and when the system is up to temp it sounds like a kettle or a pan of frying bacon.

I have bled it and the only thing which stops the noise is to open the LSV. I hear a large gushing of water and the noise stops.

i have found that if i turn the boiler off but leave the pump running, the noise goes away. it seems strange as the noise did not appear to be from the boiler it seemed to be the 1st rad

is it a thermostatic rad valve ???? If so, it sounds like its fitted the wrong way round.

Try changing the valve or leaving it open.

As long as all rads heat up ok you don't have to worry too much about achieving a 11 deg drop.

from what you have said, it sound as if, that rad is plumbed as a one pipe system, and every thing is belting through it, or try opening up the other lockshields abit
I had a similar problem a few year back, there was that much resistance in the system the first rad was acting as a bypass and it was imposible to get anydrop accross it without a lot of noise from water gushing through it

I would just open the lochshield up and forget it

problem sorted.

there was some kind of air lock somewhere in the pipes for that rad. closed all other rads off and the said rad started making all sorts of glugging noises until it just went sort of whoooosssshhhhh out the bleed screw.all fine now
