That time of year again. :D

When I turn on my air con, the compressor kicks in, sounds rough for a few seconds, then fades out. Each time it kicks in, the radiator fan comes on (speeds back up - it never actually stops).

Any ideas? The rough sound and fade out I guess could be because theres no gas (therefore oil) in the fridge system? Or do i need a specialist to look at it?

Cheers

it will probably need looking at every year or two.

I usually ask for the person to check for signs of leakage before repressurising (there are only half a dozen seals that can leak, unless you have a damaged component or pipe). Leakage leaves a fluorescent green stain so can be easy to spot.

In my experience they manage to find a seal that needs renewing every time it goes in. I now take it to a local air con specialist, not the main dealer for this.

Noise might be wear or shortage of oil, or wear caused by shortage of oil.

what car is it??,on some it wont work at all if there is no gas in,if its climate controlled they flash to tell you theres a problem(on fords)mine packed in and i was quoted 800 quid to get it working, turned out the compressor clutch had come apart bought a 2nd hand compressor from flea bay, took the clutch
off of it and put it on the old 1,FIXED for 30 quid.
