hi...

at friends house

floor standing boiler, ch pump and programmer, hw cylinder in the outhouse, pipework runs from outhouse into house above head height insulated in summit and away under the fllorboards

cwsc in the loft if main house , runs all the way to the shed to the hwc and back to taps !!!

the f and e is at head height in the loft (its more of a third floor than a loft) (yes...above the cwsc !)
on the same level, in the room next door is a rad. this rad is only 2 foot lower than the f and e. i cant tell yet how its fed but i suspect its been connected from the 1st floor up (a later addition ?)

i cant get it to bleed. i have had the rad valve off...nothing, yet mt friends say it use to work. (thay asked me to look at their ch, re lack of heat. it turns out to be a dry f and e , ballvalve problem.

any ideas on the top rad .

could the only 2 foot height diff be the problem.

could i cut the pipe tails and put in a drain valve and consequently fill it from a hose ?

simple anwser is yes it would work as long as the pipe work is not blocked in some way , why not just try attaching a hose to any drain point but be careful dont want a flood , or try turning off all the other rads running the system to get out any air stuck in the pipework out. (watch out if you have a pumped return it is likely the top rad will pull in air if the pump is running when you try to bleed it.)

with so little head, I'd have thought air lock. If you shut all the other rads, will the puimp blast it out?

i could try the hose on a downstairs drain (done it before) but my feeling is it just might go into the f and e and not the intended rad as their is so little head...might be wrong...might try it.

i tried closing off as many rads as i dare touch (old knackered system and things leak as soon as look at them) but did not help.

i think i'll go with the drain valve/hose option downstairs first and see.
