anyone know if they're still worth owt? and i'm talking lots of really old ones unopened, and still in cellaphane (no, not cell phone  ) wrappers (no, not 50 cent or Eminem  ).

But seriously, is there still a demand? or is it ebay the lot for a couple of quid?

they're not mine, but a close friend who wants to get rid.

And he's been collecting for 40 years or more... and they're all in mint condition.

Lifesa... your interest is noted, but i would like to find out where one might sell them first, in order to get a decent price for my friend.

Would it be at a general auction?

Best go for a specialist auction, catalouge them and send to auctioneer to get a rough value google it.

that's excellent, thank-you (apart from the clock/calender cursor which is very annoying!! ).

i did google it myself yesterday, and got a bit bogged down, but did find an airfix forum.... a bit like the specialist publications you see on 'Have i got news for you?'. But the creator of that site did post on there, and had his photo on there (he did look a bit of a bruiser) and called himself 'The Boss' - quite funny really... (not a dig a DIYnot admin - honest !!)
And can you believe i'm hijacking my own thread !! shocking!!

A friend of mine has a collection of Airfix coasters, (few hundred) sold them for a little over a grand.

So unopened original models must be worth a few bob.

Ahh. happy days. As aboy in the 1950's would buy one a week from Wooly's,
spend hours glueing it together and painting it. Then hang them on threads from the bedroom ceiling. they included Westland Lysander, Spitfire, Huricane Lanc. Mosquito ( my favouite). Then the beastly ME109. FW190.Dornier etc etc.
Then became a teenager and found other more worldly interests.
One day shot them all down with a friends air rifle loaded with balls of ciggarette packet silver paper. Great fun for 30 minutes

Remember reading somewhere long time ago, that the Airfix trend came about after a company wanted to have toys built, but they didnt have enough money so they sold them as kits and you made them yourself....the rest I think is history!

They were made in millions and don't generally have a high value, but some items may be of interest to collectors.

(you're only saying thet because you want to buy them ;) ;) )
but seriously, they may have made a few million, but most would've been opened, made and shot at with an air rifle (like i did with mine), or already owned by existing collectors etc, or just not in good nick. These are mostly untouched in their wrappers....

I could sell you some more if you want them!
Most are found at toy fairs at less than face value. But good luck!
I especially like the quad, limber and 25-pounder.(no mac-jokes)

Wot u got Martian? (Diane wants to know) ;)
