Yes cracking the enigma code saved tens of thousands of lives we knew what the Germans were doing all the time.

He didn't crack it alone though. Apparently the Poles did much of the groundwork. Also, there was something on a couple of weeks back about the guy that worked out the 41 cogged wheels and a guy named Flowers that built that Colossus computer.
