Hi

Could anyone tell me if alarm cable is ok to run telephone sockets, to include broadband, the reason I ask is that I have plenty of alarm cable and seems pointless purchasing telephone cable if it does exactly the same job.

Many thanks!

No it is not.

Alarm cable is a stranded conductor, and therefor will not make a reliable connection in IDC connectors.

Also telephone cable has twisted pairs to help reduce signal loss / interference. Alarm cable does not.

Oh and then there is the entirely different colouring standards.

RF Lighting is correct,do not use it, alarm cab would work for speech but cause you many problems with your adsl connection, you will suffer major db loss from the master to the extensions using this cable...best spec cable is cat5

Does this mean that the twisted pairs should be used together, for instance blue/white tracer to 5 connector and white/blue tracer 2 connector?
