the control box on my scantronic 9450 alarm is very hot on the top surface, not too hot to touch but significantly hot. My wife is concerned that it may burst into flames. I could pull the fuse, to disable the box, but would need to delve inside to disconnect battery. Tomorrow I’ll arrange an engineer, but are my wife’s concerns valid. The system is over 30 yr old but has worked perfectly well in all that time.

Likely, the battery is dead, and is taking a full charge, which it is turning into heat.

Open panel , put in code to stop internal tamper alarm , unplug battery ( spade terminals ) and remove it …If the battery is hot this will be the cause ….the panel heat sink on the top should cool down after about 15 min , close panel and enter code to reset , replace battery 2.1ah type

Toolstation ( this is the correct size battery ) this version is 2.3ah

Thank you Sparkymarka, have removed battery and will seek replacement tomorrow. Do I have to get the exact replacement, 2.1ah or would the 2.3ah suffice.

You can get that battery up to 3.0ah ….its the physical size that matters ….bigger the ah the longer it will last …
