Alternative cooker hood lamps

We have a Stoves cooker hood in the kitchen and the lamps need some attention. They have no glass covers in (previous owners lost or broke them) and the bulbs are forever flickering and going off - a fiddle with the bulb brings it back on for while but then goes off again. I tried easing in/out the pins on the G4 bulbs to try and get better contact but to no avail so really need to replace these lamp holders. They look like this:

But replacements are not cheap! I was wondering if there is any alternative I can use? LED perhaps? I guess they need to be quite robust as they are in hot and steamy conditions.
