Hey guys, does anyone have any suggestions to a worktop? The unit it needs to cover is only 1m in length and 36cm in depth. I'm struggling to find a worktop I like and that matches, anything I do find I can only purchase in 2 or 3m lengths. It seems like a waste and a expensive one at that. Does anyone have any suggestions to an alternative? The top won't be used as a working countertop, just for a display items. Thanks

Offcut of solid wood worktop or granite (stone) worktop - often available on freecycle, etc but also sometimes sold by kitchen firms. Stone flag, cut to size and sealed. Cement pavior cut to sized and sealed. 18mm plywood or 12 to 15mm cement fibre board with tiled top (maybe even recycled quarry tile). 18mm plywood (or better 25mm ply, or 2 layers of 18mm ply, or 18mm ply with extra rips of 18mm fixed around the bittom with mutred corners so.it looks like it is 36mm thick) with the edges sanded and sealed and kacquered all over.

Wooden flooring, prefinished, can be bought in packs of about 1 sq m

You might find an end-of-range at clearance price.

Avoid laminate, which wears badly.

I would probably go with @Wayners suggestion and use 25mm MDF. You will be able to paint it to a colour of your choice.

A decent timber merchant will cut it to size.

Lots of worktop off cuts given away or cheap on Facebook marketplace .
Or couple of large format tiles on ply base.
