I've got a Netgear wireless router. When I click on the "find available networks" button on the wizard, there is a guys name there. I don't know of anyone with that name near to me. Signal strength at the mo' is 0%, but i have seen it up to 6%. Just wondering if anyone can offer any insight as to what is going on. Cheers.

As long as you have set your wireless router up with either WPA or WEP (pref WPA) you have some safety from being hacked. have a look here http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3672711

The fact that you can see someone else on find available networks is normal. It is not a good idea to put your name anywhere in the router wireless setting - if you can be identified perhaps you make a better target for the "baddies" :D
I have 6 that I can see - 2 actually have there own names showing but are on a protected system. One occasionally comes up with no protection - so in theory I could use this by allowing my computer to connect to his system and steal his bandwidth. If I knew who he was I would tell him to protect himself!

Signal strength being low would indicate user is some distance away from you - that may mean several hundred metres or less

Thanks for the Tony. I'm using the WPA security setting. I'll sleep a bit easier now.
