I am in the middle of replacing an old aspestos roof to a garage, before I could get the old roof removed I had to clear a bushy vine plant thing which covered my roof and my neighbours roof. I got the bush down my side but its still on my neighbours side but this will die as its practically all cut from the main trunk.

Is it up to me to clear my neighbours roof as well?

you sure mate? at the end of the day its my vine plant thing, my neighbour let it grow over her roof and now I've basically dug it up and cut my side away. Her side will die in a matter of weeks Im sure

yes it will die and shrivel, but what if you hadnt chopped it off, and it caught some disease that killed it, it would still shrivel.

you could ask if she wants it removed. but wait untill it dies and shrivels

Probably the polite way would be to offer to remove it as you have caused it to die.

yeah your probably right john but when I removed it from my side it was clearit was causing some damage o the roof, I fear if I do the kind neighbour thing and offer to remove it and as it comes away damages the roof then I'll end up fixing her a new roof as well.

are u replacing the asbestos roof yourself? How are you planning to dispose of the material.

With respect, what's the point in asking? You seem to be trying to convince yourself that your instincts are right. You have no obligation to remove the stuff from their roof. They can, if they choose, cut it off themselves, but legally they must chuck it back on your side afterwards. End of.

Now, if you wanna be a decent neighbour, offer to take it off for them - that way you'll be able to check for damage as you go, whereas they might "cause" damage as they rip it off their side. Of course, if a plant coming from your side has damaged their property then you might find a solicitor's letter on its way to you if they notice.

Yes I am disposing of the \aspestos myself, my local tip accepts it, I called them to ask how i.e do I need to bag it up and they said no  full sheets are fine. I will be bagging it up!

I did the decent neighbour thing and removed the plant from her roof, keeps everything amicable - if thats how you spell it

Glad it's sorted.

On the asbestos thing, I have never had to dispose of asbestos, despite the job i do - I was under the impression that it HAD to be got rid of by licensed handlers - is the danger really overblown by the press after all (wouldn't be surprised)
