My old fashioned gas meter has started making funny noises, like a kind of whooshing coming and going when the boiler fires up, i called up my supplier and told them, but because they all seem to be working from home she couldnt really help me as the computer was down, she said i would get a call back which never happened.
In the mean time i googled it, and one or two people said that when a meter is not working correctly and making noises, then the chances are that it is not registering the correct amount of gas that i am using, thoughts anyone?

I have been told this before.
Basically the premis was that when a gas meter reads wrong it generally reads for the benefit of the user and not the supplier.
It is supposed to be rare that they read more than they should.

This is regarding the old analogue ones and not the digital ones that screw up all the time. :)

yeah, this is the analogue type, i suppose it didnt help me keep turning it round... hahahahah

Sounds like water in the pipe. Have there been any gas works locally about the time this started?
Also, does the boiler flame remain constant, or does it rise and fall with the whooshing?

Hiya, the flame burns perfectly, no difference in the flame as far as i can tell, and as far as i am aware there has been no gas works locally, certainly not on our street

If you're worried, get an engineer out and get him to gas rate your appliance(s) just to check that the meter is delivering enough gas.

Give us a pic of your meter. You may have a old meter that has bellows and the mechanism is now starting to get noisy. It's been doing what it does for a long time after all.

supposed to be changed once they reach 20 years old , but lots have slipped through the net

Hiya, thanks for the reply, this is the meter, for some reason a cupboard was place in front of it...
