Ampy 5235a Electricity Meter

I have a Landis & Gyr #Ampy 5235a electricity meter, which has two leds, one of which, [rhs/KWh] flashes at varying rates. I assume this translates into KWh consumption; can anyone tell me how to interpret/calculate this?
I have tried calling the manufacturer but they are unwilling to help!
I have downloaded a spec. sheet (http://www.landisgyr.com/za/apps/products/data/pdf1/5235_Technical_Specification11.pdf) but this doesn't provide any user instructions.

Yes - the faster it flashes the higher your consumption is.

Yes - the faster it flashes the higher your consumption is.

Very helpful. As far as I'm aware, it's one flash per 1/1000th kWh, or if you prefer, one flash per Wh.

To sit there with a stop-watch counting flashes as a way to work out consumption?

Thanks to Mathew for the calc. I now wonder if the rate of flashing is infinitely variable - or whether it has a small number of pre-defined speed rates?

no. it flashes in proportion to the usage.

Sounds like a good day out to me! I guess the information might be equally useful for someone wanting to make their own power monitoring device - I've seen a similar project on t'internet where the designer put an LDR over the meter's LED and then interfaced to a logger to keep track of power usage. Admittedly, energy meters are very cheap these days, but it would be a nice little project and a good way of keeping tabs on your energy very precisely, as you will be able to see exactly what the meter is seeing.

It's not an LED - it's an optical port for reprogramming the meter.

Monitor Voltage = Easy
Monitor Current = Errrrr how is that done then ?

which specific one are we talking about?

the plug in ones do it the same way that you would with a meter, put the meter in line with the live conductor..

the "wireless" one has a clip on ammeter clamp that plugs into a wireless transmitter..

To all: Thanks for the recent flurry of interest!
It seems to me that this thread is moving away from the original problem with the Landis & Gyr #Ampy 5235a electricity meter, towards the recently introduced topic of the Efergy electricity monitor. Although this product is interesting in itself, please be clear as to which item you are referring (especially comment re 're-programming port'....)
