Hi Everyone,

New to the site.

I have a concern which i have only just found.

My family are buying a property with a stone built annexe located to the rear of the house about 10-15 meters away, it was built in 2008 so its been there a while and its use is for a garage a upstairs gym and shower room only as stated on the permission. The electric, water, internet etc all come from the house apart from the heating.

We are buying the property with my in laws and the plan was to convert the annexe into accommodation for them, so kitchen, dining room, upstairs bedroom and lounge area.

My question is how easy will it be to have the use changed from what it is now to 'residential'?

Its not going to be let out, its going to be used for my wifes parents. Its not going to have its own address, it will have access in the same way it does now with the main house and won't have any changes externally.

Has anyone been through the process before?

We are going to seek advice once we are in next month but wanted to get some knowledge on the matter 1st.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Apply for planning permission now , will save time and answer your question.May attract council tax as additional dwelling .
My annex was formally a dance studio but then converted to accommodation , with proviso it’s only used for immediate family.

plenty off parking off road [perhaps 5 or six spaces] may be another possible problem
