Having a bit of a nightmare of connecting my washing machine up. These are the two pipes, I presumed the only one to connect it to was the left hand side one because that's not capped off. So I did that.

No water is going into the machine, and I can not see anywhere to physically open that valve up. Nothing under the kitchen sink, or anywhere near it. Any advice would be greatly welcomed!!

Very confused

Personally I'd replace those isolators - which are shown in the off position. However, to turn them on, the centre piece with the flats on can be turned 90 degrees with an adjustable spanner. The plastic turn levers are long gone.
Some machines had a hot and cold fill a while ago, usually they are just cold fed now.....hence two isolators.
If you want to replace them, remove all of the paint first!

Hi burner man, thank you for your reply. Is this what you meant when you said turn it 90 degrees? Still no flow of water. Sorry to sound so dumb

No mate, don’t turn the whole item!
Its the peg that’s sticking out of it.....one of them still has the old screw that held the turn lever in place.
You can see it’s round, with a couple of flats machined on for grip.
This peg thing can turn round and round....90 deg on, 90deg off and so on but I recommend you just turn it the once - its old and you don’t want any leak.

John.

You are an absolute gem! Thank you so much. Only moved into this new house 2 weeks ago and so much has gone wrong. I could either afford to eat or get this thing on

I am very grateful
