Hi,
Wanted to open up our old gas fireplace to accommodate the log burner that is currently in the other room.
Removed the gas-fire.
Gas supply cut off.
Knocked back the plaster.
Cant see a brick arch or lintel. Just a wonky bricked up rectangle that isnt tied in. The current opening appears to be supported by flat bar.
I wish to opening it but leave some of the newer brick in situ. If I put a lintel in will it have to reach into the original brick or can it sit on some of the non tied in brick?
Thanks.
