Hi Guys,

I’ve been doing a fair amount of reading this week trying to determine how to get the best out of my heating and was reading about balancing but then went down a rabbit hole reading about flow …

One of these aspects is around which side the TRV should be on and it appears that most articles refer to a best practice to have the TRV on the flow side of the radiator which more often than none appears to be on the left hand side too.

So went round my house which is a relatively new build and noticed some are on the left and others the right.

In trying to determine which is the flow, I used a FLIR thermal camera and noticed that some radiators appear to heat from the lock shield end of the radiator which leads me to believe that when the house was built they did what ever …

But then I read about bidirectional valves and for the life of me I can’t work out which way the arrow is pointing on this … must be going blind. Added 2 photos from different rads.

I guess I’m wondering if this is an issue … my gut tells me that the TRV’s should be on the flow side and the lock shield on the other, consistently throughout the house.

Thoughts welcomed.
