I am in the middle of attempting to swap a standard ceiling rose with an IKEA light. I will firstly admit I am out of my depth so appreciate and welcome advice.

The pictures below show the ceiling rose connection I have now removed, and the connection as they currently are. I have no idea whether what I have done is right or wrong. The switched cable was unmarked so I checked continuity down the black wire from the ceiling to the light switch. The wiring suggestion I have followed I found on here from an old post but now I am nervous about turning the fuse back on!

Wrong!!!

First of all, looking at the original picture, you need to identify the black wire that connected to the brown wire to the light.
That is the switched live. Sleeve this with a red or brown marker and connect it to the live on your new light.
The other two blacks are the neutrals and they connect to the neutral on your new light.
The three reds connect together and NOT TO ANYTHING ELSE!!!

Possibly what you need to do is to move the red with the black sleeve (take the sleeve off…why did you do that? A black sleeve means neutral) to the block with the other reds. The black that is in with the reds moves to the lights L terminal. Mark it with a RED or BROWN sleeve.

It could possibly work, however normally we use red as feed to switch, and black as the switched line suitably sleeved with red.

Basic thing is colour does to tell you anything.

Join the earth conductors together with a proper terminal.

The black in with the reds comes from the L1 terminal on the switch. I don't have any red sleeve to hand but wanted to mark the cable from the switch so put some tape on the red in the same cable. That red is on the com terminal at the switch.

So is the switch the correct way round and the light connection the wrong way round?

I'll put the earths in a block too.

Switch is correct ,the wiring at light fitting isn't. Do as Taylortwocities advised earlier .
