Had 2 quotes in so far & looking for 1-2 more.

The job is board & skim 13' x 9' ceiling.
Skim 2 other walls
Replace damaged plaster across the whole of the top of the window. I'm going to remove as much of the blown plaster as possible myself.

1st quote is for £700, he said he's going to board the bit above window & it would take 2 days max.

2nd quote is for £900 £650 for labour & £250 for parts. He will repair the damage above window & said 4 days.

Not so much quibbling the cost, but the time they reckon it would take to complete. Is the first one underestimating how long or is the 2nd one going the opposite way.

I suppose i'm thinking is one going to rush the job or the other stringing it out too much.

I live on the West coast of Cumbria if any help in costings.

Have you watched.. on the trowel... On YouTube.
He is much faster than myself.
Some guys chuck half time in the mix to speed up the set and if you have a labourer you can crack on. I worked on my own and not so quick now I'm older.
So many variables to time and quality of work which reflects in price.

Cheers for the the reply Wayners.

Price wise, it is what it is.

As far as i am aware, both work on their own.

What's your take on one saying they'll board the damaged portion & the other fill. Which is the better option in your opinion?

I had a chap come and quote for plastering. Very nice guy, very chatty, "I've done all of these along this street at various times". A quick, 'back of a fag packet' quote there and then was £950. Gulp! Got another chap to quote a day later, £450 all in.
Nervously went with the cheaper what could go wrong with plastering?
The latter was perfect, spot-on. Chatty yet professional.
How one can charge twice the other is beyond me. I know which is now in my little book for use next time.

I'm not quibbling on the price as such, it was just the length of time the job would take. It's going to be pot luck which one i pick, see what the next one says tomorrow.

I think I agree with you that the prices are a bit too different. Hopefully your next quote will sit right in the middle or, nearer the one or the other. At least then you'll know who was out and then you can make an easier, informed decision.
