Hi,

I wanted to make a feature of one of my oak kitchen cupboard doors by cutting out the middle, screwing a piece of plywood to the back of what is left of the door and essentially creating a frame in which to place tiles that will match up with the tiles that we have on the wall. The area to be tiled is no more than 400 x 600mm, and about 20mm deep.

The door will no longer be used. It'll be glued shut along one edge, but the hinges will remain in place along the other edge for continued support, and so it will effectively become an immoveable panel rather than a door. The cupboard will be accessed via the door next to it.

I'm sure that you can begin to sense the quality of the final product..

I've bought BAL joint grout, 6mm ply, and Topps rapid-set adhesive.

However, I've now noticed that the adhesive states that I need to buy Topps primer. For an area this small, do I really need to fork out another £15 for primer that I'm only going to use once, or is there an alternative, or perhaps be a cheapskate at my peril?

Thanks
