just had my boilers serviced, my CH boiler, a glowworm (cant remember the model at the moment, but was fitted to council houses about 8/9 years ago) had gone out, and as its in an outhouse and Im not using the central heating at the moment I never noticed.

anyway, turns out the thermocouple has gone, this makes the 4th thermocouple in 2 years, is there something wrong here? cheap parts or what?

I dont know old the 1st was it was in when i moved in and failed shortly after, 2nd lasted 8 weeks, 3rd until somtime in the last 3 months.

or is it somthing to do with the boiler being in an outhouse, not inside??

Although the fault is related I very much doubt the thermocouple is busted.

poor connection or badly positioned, even pilot assemble problems.

You need a competent gas engineer who can come and properly examine whats wrong.

If you just call parts changers then thats all they do without identifying the underlying fault. Thermocouples usually last 2-12 years with some models never seeming to need one. I have never needed to change one on any Sine 18 for example yet although those boilers are now about 20 years old.

This is one of the occasions where the older ex-british gas people are quite good as they were trained and worked through the years when boilers had pilot lights.

I will have to see if I can find somone with a bit more experiance on this type of boiler, I know they are not expensive parts, but at the same time I dont realy want a break down in the middle of winter with a (will be then) 7 month old.
