Would be very grateful for advice.
I've got a Worcester 25si gas combi boiler. The high pitched whining noise definitely comes from the boiler itself rather than the pipes and comes on after the hot water or central heating or both have been on for a short while and continues for a short while after the heating or hot water have been turned off ie after the burner has stopped firing. I dont know much about these things - is it the fan or the pump or both that continues to function for a short while after the burner is switched off? Anyway, the whine stops abruptly when whatever part of the boiler that is still running subsequently switches itself off. Apart from the noise, the boiler works fine, but it's situated in our bedroom so the noise is driving us mad.
I expect that I will need to get a corgi-trained engineer to look at it, but would appreciate any advice to avoid getting ripped off - I've done a bit of phoning around and have been offered a "power flush" at £400 + VAT ! With this sort of thing is it better to get someone who charges a one off call out fee plus whatever parts are required, or someone who charges by the hour??
