Hi
The anti snap Yale cylinder lock on our front composite door has jammed and does not turn at all. The door is closed shut!

I have tried a pair of jaw pliers to snap it but no luck.

Can anyone advise what else I can try or can it be snapped by persevering ?

thanks

I think you should still be able to drill it out through the key way, though I have not tried that with a "modern" cylinder.

Cylinders on "British Standard" locks have an armoured escutcheon to prevent drilling, snapping or pulling.

You may find the drill snaps when it goes through a pin, so have a few spares.

I take it you can't open it from the inside?

Post a pic please, inside and out.

If you can remove the escutcheon or handle plate, you may get a better grip on the cylinder nozzle. The screws will be inside the house.

Snapping may gouge or scratch the door. This does not worry burglars.

If it is an "anti snap" there should still be more pins holding it locked after you have snapped it.

Is the door bent at all? You should be able to see this from the inside as it will likely be flush in one area and projecting in the middle if it's jammed.

Thanks door is straight and not bent, photos inside with escutcheon off

And outside?

You did try the key inside and out?

It doesn't look like a bolt-through escutcheon or handle.

Thumb turn so no handle. I can drill from the front quite easy, just wonder how tough the pins on these locks

Really push the door into the frame then try to turn from the inside.

I wouldn't expect the thumbturn end to have any pins, so should be easier to drill. But I don't see why it wouldn't turn.

It may be the bolt that is jammed, as Swwils is thinking.

Tried really pushing the door and also loosen the hinge adjusters so the door had a bit of slack on the lock side.

The thumb turn turns slightly clockwise, but the moment it gets resistant it jams anti clockwise.

Please take more photos of the door inside and out.

Include the top and bottom edges of the door, and both side edges. Perhaps it has sagged on the hinges.

And what you can see of the lock where it meets the frame.

How old is the lock, and how old is the door?

If the barrel has jammed or even if the mechanism has then drilling the lock and using a screwdriver to turn won't help, you normally drill a lock if you've lost the key but you have a key, you even have a thumb turn on one side and the barrel is still stuck

Good quality steel drill and start drilling from the outside or get a locksmith in to do it for you

Just a good look from the front and it has a bolt thru escutcheon which is accessed with the cylinder removed. Am I right in the ****e now ‍♂️ as I cannot drill the lock.

I've drilled many locks Yale style night latches/rim locks even with hardened pins protecting the tumblers, you just need cobalt bits, normal HSS bits will just bounce off but that's for the common type Yale style front door key, however if your Yale key looks like this....

....then your in trouble.

Like I said if you have a key then drilling won't achieve anything - the barrel still won't turn for some reason, even the thumb turn doesn't turn.
