I have just bought a French antique (1920.s) light fitting (metal.) It's clearly been rewired recently with 1mm cable however being French there's no Earth cable. Should I add an earth: if so what's the best way??

Hello Rockem,

Are you able to post some 'pictures' of the light ?'

I saw one of these recently - it was from the Phillipines with 2 core cable. Told the customer to replace the metal lampholder with one from John Lewis, that has a screw on the body of the lampholder, they're available elsewhere too.
The other possibility is to drill a hole in the body of the fitting for an earthing screw.

Regards

Edited - posted before I saw your picture, comments above are for a table lamp. for that unit I would drill a hole in the ceiling rose.

Hi,

Maybe an 'eyelet' crimp lug, and lock nut/washer on the 'arm' top left of the pic ????
