I have an external door frame to repair. The sole plate is partly rotted as is one of the uprights. The timber is rough-cut 4x2. Yes actually good old fashioned 4x2 and not the modern reduced metric 'equivalent'. I
wish to scarf in new timber. My question is does anyone know where (in the Midlands) I can get 4x2 that is actually 4x2 ?
Thanks

You will need to get it planed down from a larger piece.

Agreed. I suggest that the OP rings round local joinery shops and timber yards. Be needs to be looking for someone who can machine up joinery grade redwood as opposed to white wood. It may need to start as 5 x 3 nominal to get 4 x 2 finished size.
