Wife sent me this video of our boiler making a strange noise. It doesn't do it all the time and I can't recreate it. Tried heating and hot water and it didn't make the noise. She says it's made that noise twice now on two separate occasions

So any professional boiler bods our there who fancy trying to diagnose a fault based on a noise?!? Have a go. By the way I did look inside the boiler -everything looked ok to me. Its a Baxi main eco elite 30kw

Was the boiler heating at the time of the noise? Likely causes would be pump or fan

Yes it was heating at the time.. are you thinking the impeller may have been jammed?

When the burner stops only the pump will be running, is the noise still there at that point?

Unfortunately it hasn't happened in my presence and I cant reproduce it, so I don't know the answer to that

It's happened twice and my wife was present at the time. Hasn't happened again. Could be the impeller gets a bit stuck but sorts itself out?

Could be a bit of magnatec, do you have a filter?

yes I do have a mag filter - installed about 6 years ago - the piping and radiators are about 20+ years old!

Have you cleaned out the filter recently?

Andy
I have a fernox TF1 which I flushed out about 6 months ago - haven't cleaned it properly though (which would require opening the lid! - these things are notorious leakers!). Will give it a good clean though - I have a new set of seals for the TF1 which should stop it weeping.
