Hi,
Next doors been sold to a property developer. There was a garage attached to our utility room wich they had to demolish. Our wall that was built before their garage 110 years ago is now visible, before the gargae was attached to it. This wall is a mess, some bricks are lose and all the pointing has come away. They say that as it's our wall and we will have to put it right. I believe the bricks and pointing have come away due to the demolition.
This was 3 weeks ago now, and I am most worried due to the amount of rain and frosts we have had recently.
Has anybody got any idea where we could find free advice apart from CAB.
Cheers for any advice.

Is the utility attached to your property? If it is then I think that they should have given you notice under the party wall act that the work would take place. If they didn't do this then they have broken the law. the party wall act also states what repairs etc have to be made to a party wall after any building works.

Heres a load of legalese on the party wall act. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1996/1996040.htm

Best to consult a solicitor, or phone your building control dept at you local council, they may be able to help.

Ring your house insurance company and outline the problem to them. Most policies nowdays have legal cover and they will get on the case for you.
