I have my sister's cruelly neglected shed of a 2009 Clio 1.5 diesel to try and get an MOT on and have a general look over. No service history, but she won't have done anything with it! Does anyone know what the cam belt replacement interval is on one of those, please? And how much you might expect to pay to have it replaced?

The early dci engines needed a belt change at 65k. They originally had an oil drop interval at 21k - very quickly reduced after failures.
Access is hellish and locking tools vital on this one!
As for the cost, sorry no idea on these now.
John :)

Thanks John,

Yes, I watched a few Youtube videos. and it looks really nasty. Why on earth you would lock the crank with pins that go through the side of the block and up against the crank, rather than into the flywheel, is beyond me!

It's got 125,000 on it now. They bought it second hand. If, perhaps, it had one at 65k (which would probably have been worth doing, by a previous owner), then maybe this one isn't as far on to borrowed time as I feared.

Ford Zetecs have done that for years.

Dunno. Ask Ford. It doesn't 'lock' it in position, it just sets it in position. You 'lock' the cam pulleys, the crank pulley has no keyway and is just floating.

It's not actually too bad a job but it is awkward. Probably around 4 or 5 hours, but it's a case of lifting and lowering the engine to get access and of course some work under and some above .

Just an update...

Took the miserable POS for its MOT yesterday, and I've got a few other things to worry about now! The biggest of which, is that the whole front subframe can move a good 10mm! It's on a couple of big rubber bushes (same as a Nissan Note) which look like absolute sods to press out of the subframe, and one is knackered. The other is some considerable way beyond "knackered"!

Your sis is expecting a lot, running a motor on zero maintenance!
Yeah, I'm not enjoying this...

Long story short. Married a self-employed bloke, who made her a business partner. Unfortunately, he never got round to paying any tax and ran up some other massive debts. 20 years later, they're going through a very acrimonious divorce, the tax man has finally caught up with him, and the house sale is barely going to cover their debts and being a partner, half of them are hers. She's been a housewife for most of that time, and latterly, has worked in a local school as a teaching assistant. So basically, she's got naff-all money and is stuck in the "shed trap", where she has a worthless car, no money for a newer car, and no money to maintain said worthless car...

That's sad. I feel sorry for people who are put in a bad position by others who they should be able to trust.

My sister's ex stopped paying the mortgage on their house (when they were married and together) and never said a word. He hid everything from her. The first she knew was a knock on the door on Christmas Eve by the bailiff telling her they were repossessing.

Well, I'm bloody fuming now! The subframe bushes (which I deliberately picked because of the claimed fast delivery) should have arrived on Thursday and still aren't here! I've done all the other jobs that I can do with the car in the state it's in, and now I'm just bloody stuck waiting! That's going to cost me a full MOT retest now, and if they don't arrive by Wednesday, probably a week's bloody car hire for my sister!

Talk about no good deed going unpunished...

Bloody eBay sellers...:mad: Won't be using this one again!
