Anyone experienced with Marshalls paving?

Hi Gang,

Anyone experienced with the different types of Marhshalls paving available?

I'm looking for about 40-50sq metres of concrete block paving - probably going to be using the standard 200x100x50mm blocks in brindle.

Had a couple of quotes from local suppliers (Travis Perkins and Jewsons) ranging from £10.50-14.50 + vat m2 delivered. Wickes are also selling Marshalls paving at £12.60 m2 including VAT - but I have a £20 discount voucher available.

My question is - how much difference is there in the different Marshalls paving range from the 'Driveline 50' to some of the cheaper Marshalls range? Travis Perkins sell it as 'Dalestone', Wickes and Jewsons don't mention the range but there's Marshalls labels on the pallets..!

Is £12.60 a metre a good price? £10.42 at Wickes but they charge for delivery under £250 I think so if I'm ordering 2/3 packs it won't save much.

Driveline 50 seems a lot more expensive - is it really worth the extra?

What, ask a company how good their product is and how it compares to a rival companies' product?

I'm no genius but I'm guessing they aren't going to be as impartial as the o.p. would like.

Given that your question seems to be "How much difference is there in the different Marshalls paving range from the 'Driveline 50' to some of the cheaper Marshalls range?" - it does seem like one that Marshalls would be well equipped to answer. What are you going to be doing with this paving? Driving on it, or walking on it?

You're correct and I'm a d ick. Sorry Jack,I scan read most of it.

I think the main difference in a companies' quality products v's their low end stuff is appearance and ease of installation.

Cheaper stuff is always more costly to fit. It is likely to age quicker and look that little bit shabbier.

It also depends what you want from it. Some people like shiny drives whereas others just want something better than mud.

Thanks guys. To be honest, I hadn't thought of asking Marshalls because until this afternoon I didn't know that the 'budget' paving sold by the suppliers I mentioned was actually made by Marshalls. They obviously don't like to shout about it so maybe there's a reason?

I live in a 70s built house made of a Fletton bricks etc. I guess it's all relative, the more expensive Tegula paving looks nice but my neighbours have the standard 200x100 blocks so why try and stand out - it's only for parking the cars on at the end of the day!

I guess I was looking for a word of experience from anyone who might have used the lower priced paving from Wickes, Jewsons or Travis Perkins. How was it to lay/fit, and if you've had it a while - how's it lasting/looking months/years down the line?

Likewise, anyone who's used the driveline 50 range - comments appreciated
