Just moved into a new house, and having a nosey around the roof and saw this little nest. It is about the size of a tennis ball.

Any ideas what it is ?

Stivino there's some massive ones in that Google link you posted. Glad I don't have one of those that's for sure !!

Do be careful though, if it's still occupied. Wasps are b*stards. No other word for them. Worse than Eric Pickles.

I allegedly have a MASSIVE zip-lock bag, and the nest is in an easy to knock off position. I will be wearing deep sea diving gear with bell helmet just in case tho. Hate wasps. evil.

Are there any wasps flying around in the vicinity?

I once saw a guy dealing with one. He used to keep bees and he had a veil on for protection.
First he gave the nest a good spraying with what I assume was fly spray. Then with a shopping bag in one hand and a paint scraper in the other he scraped it free and it fell into the shopping bag.
Simples.

er think your need more then that.

I do think it needs to be established whether the nest is currently active. Wasps nests die off towards the winter.
