I'm sitting watching Newsnight.

It's 10.40pm, got that, 10.40pm.

Guy on the panel said 'I have it on good authority there's a sh1tstorm brewing over this ...'

On the discussion goes. Then 20-30 secs later, after someone in his ear obviously advised him to say it, the presenter says

'I'm just going to clarify that you did use a swear word, it is quite late in the day and it was in context ...'

I mean COME ON. Yes progs can be watched 24/7 so a youngster might watch this during the day (bit unlikely though, it's Newsnight after all) but this need to fecking apologise for the slightest little thing in today's media is pathetic.

If you're offended by someone using the word sh1tstorm when referring to a serious political matter then I don't know what!

A curious distinction, considering the way profanity is freely distributed in recent issues of HIGNFY.

Perhaps some of the expected viewership of Newsnight would have been offended......... that the panellist couldn't verbalise his opinion without resorting to profanity ;)

Fact is it's a policy that a number of media sources follow.
Guy on the panel said 'I have it on good authority there's a sh1tstorm brewing over this ...'
That sort of statement is why I don't bother watching this prog. A news prog will mention the source. Form of self preservation to avoid being sued. Anything else is very likely to be general political sniping to suite their faithful.

I get that and yes, we all have different lines in the sand with language and how it's used. However for me, I just think on some occasions either let it go altogether (unless it's a very obvious swear word) or reference it in a different way whilst still making the point. However to essentially stop the discussion just highlights it all the more.
