Hello, new to the forum and was hoping someone may be able to help.
This morning (following a cold night) I noticed on the pressure gauge showed 0. Having had this experience before, I went to top up via filling loop, only to notice that was leaking (lot when opening up for refill but dripping when closed off. Anyhoo, the gauge went to 2 and all seem fine and posted a job on rated people for replacing filling loop.
Came back to the boiler some time later to take a photo of the leak and noticed that gauge had dropped a bit and kept dropping for next couple of hours and now its almost back to 0.
One of the heating engineer came around earlier in the evening, went to check expansion vessel, removed the black lid and pressed the thing in the middle - no water came out but no sign of air either. Within 2 seconds, he said, pressure vessel needs replacing. Looking at the same product online, it is £40 whereas he quoted £100+VAT + £90+VAT fitting charge + £21+VAT for filling loop (showing to be about £5 on screwfix etc websites.
Q - 1) is no air sign of expansion vessel failing and needing replacement? OR can it be topped up with air pump?
2) Is it fair to pay two and half times the price of the product and the fitting charges?
Any help appreciated.
