Can you be arrested for doing this? What is the offence that's being commited? The cops can certainly take pictures of you?

I think it is related to counter terrorism laws which have been amended recently. The law targets anyone who elicits or attempts to elicit information about members of the armed forces (suppose this could include police) which is of a kind or likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

If found guilty the person could face imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine.

AFAIK There are no legal restrictions on photography in public places - but the law still applies to photographers

Section 76 of the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008 (amending section 58A of the 2000 Act) which came into force on 16th Feb 2009.

Yeh,, from a slightly different angle here,, but a pound to a penny,,, not one MP will be arrested and charged with "fraudulently" claiming expenses,, and some did.

Roughcaster.

Must have captured on film what they do best, using police transport to go shopping.
Or caught them sneaking out of some married womans bedroom window, again

I can understand people getting arrested for taking photos of cops, some of them are very tetchy about how their picture is taken and at what angle.

We live in a draconian police state where the only liberty you have is to consume consumer goods and Pay Your Taxes!
Never question a law either verbally or by protest.
The police are hollow husks that never question ridiculous laws they uphold, just act on instruction like mindless automatons.
Anti-terror laws have been misused more on the peaceful protesting general public than religious extremists.

People are still legally entitled to take photo's of policemen and any that try to remove your equipment are acting illegally.

They have to have a very good cause to do so and using the prevention of terrorism laws must be used with care.

Merely taking a photo that has a policeman in it is not illegal, it must be shown that it can be used to terrorism purposes.

Even the met bigwigs say stuff along these lines.

AFAIK.
