I recently bought a house from the 1850s. In a couple of the rooms there seems to be an Artex-like coating on the ceiling/walls. I didn’t know what Artex was until I Googled how to remove the “stuff” from the surfaces. I was shocked to learn it may contain asbestos!
I am confused if what’s on the wall is Artex, or some other product. It is not wallpaper. I have taken a few pictures. If it is Artex then whoever did the renovation work clearly didn’t care about asbestos as they’ve banged new pipes through it, drilled holes, etc.
The coating is white throughout (it’s painted white on top, too) and up to 1mm thick, it sits on top of what I assume to be plaster. A piece was broken off that I inspected and it has silver glitters in it.
If anyone could advise the possibility of Artex, that would be great. It looks terrible and is cracked and peeling, so I’d ideally remove it. My understanding of Artex is that it’s usually thicker than 1mm, but as I’ve never seen the stuff I am unsure.
Thank you
