Hi,
New to the forum and new to owning a house so DIY is also a new hobby!
We're getting a log burning stove fitted and the fireplace opened up a bit wider but I couldn't resist getting my mallet out and making a start on the simple demo parts before the Hetas pros come in and do a proper job.
I've attempted to remove the metal pit as in doing so I noticed a layer of felt like material between the pit and the bricks.
Being an old house (1935) and a true amateur, I had a mini panic in my head thinking - could this be asbestos as it looked quite fibreous.
Any clues would be appreciated
Kind Regards
James

Felt like material by the corner
There is quite a lot of this down between the metal and brick of the ash pit
